This photograph was taken in the rear garden of the Britannia Public House (see below) in Kent Street, Upper Gornal some time in the late 1920s.

William George YATES, my Maternal Grandfather (front row second from right) was installed as "Third Degree" member of the
Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes on 10 Dec 1930 at the Britannia Lodge (No. 5663) Kent Street, Upper Gornal, Staffordshire.

Front Row extreme left is Louis Peacock PERRY, Licensee of the Britannia.

Medal from Royal Order of Buffalos inscribed :-"Presented to Bro. William G. YATES (18 Mar 1927) by the Britannia Lodge No. 5663 in appreciation of his valuable services."
Medal from Royal Order of Buffalos inscribed :- "This order of Merit was conferred upon Bro. Wm. YATES CP (Certified Primo) by the Britannia Lodge No. 5663 as a mark of appreciation for his services in the cause of Buffaloism and their regard for him as a man and a brother." - dated 10 Dec 1930

The Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (founded in 1822) is a social and benevolent organisation whose aims are to aid members in need and the widows and orphans of deceased members, to support external charitable and philanthropic groups at national and local levels and to encourage communication, support and well-being amongst its members.
